Integrating Reiki (Series): Psychic & Paranormal Work

One of the most common questions I receive is whether Reiki and psychic work are connected. The short answer is yes—and for me, they have become inseparable.

While Reiki and psychic abilities are technically different practices, I’ve found that Reiki enhances every aspect of my intuitive work. Whether I'm conducting a tarot reading, connecting with spirit, facilitating mediumship, or investigating paranormal activity, Reiki provides a foundation of grounding, clarity, protection, and energetic discernment.

Reiki Creates a Clear Channel

One of the core principles of Reiki is becoming a channel rather than a source.

As practitioners, we learn how to step out of the way and allow healing energy to flow where it is needed. Over time, this practice teaches surrender, trust, and neutrality—qualities that are equally important in psychic development.

Many people assume psychic work is about "seeing" information. In reality, much of it involves listening.

Listening to subtle impressions.
Listening to intuition.
Listening to spirit.
Listening to energy.

When I began practicing Reiki regularly, I noticed that my readings became clearer and more focused. Instead of trying to interpret every sensation or thought, I learned how to settle into a receptive state and allow information to emerge naturally.

Reiki Helps Me Differentiate Energy

One of the biggest challenges for developing intuitives is learning the difference between their own energy and someone else's.

Are those emotions yours?
Are you sensing a client's anxiety?
Are you picking up information from spirit?
Or are you simply projecting expectations?

Reiki training develops energetic awareness in a very practical way. Through years of working with the body's energy system, practitioners become familiar with subtle shifts in vibration, emotional patterns, and energetic blockages.

This awareness has been invaluable during readings because it helps me distinguish between what belongs to me and what I am receiving from an external source.

Supporting Clients During Emotional Readings

Readings often bring up powerful emotions.

Grief.
Validation.
Healing.
Closure.
Life transitions.

Sometimes a reading becomes much more than information—it becomes a healing experience.

When appropriate, I will often channel Reiki throughout a session. Clients frequently report feeling calmer, lighter, more grounded, or emotionally supported during the reading process.

While Reiki isn't being used as a replacement for medical or mental health care, it can help create a safe energetic container where insight and healing can occur simultaneously.

Many clients leave saying they feel as though they received both a reading and an energetic reset.

Reiki During Paranormal Investigations

Perhaps one of the more surprising ways I use Reiki is during paranormal investigations.

Thanks to television and popular culture, paranormal work is often portrayed as frightening or confrontational. In my experience, most investigations involve understanding energy rather than battling it.

When entering a location with reported activity, Reiki helps me remain grounded and centered. Instead of approaching a space with fear, I can approach it with curiosity, compassion, and energetic awareness.

I often use Reiki to:

  • Ground myself before entering a location

  • Clear residual energy after an investigation

  • Support living occupants who may feel overwhelmed or fearful

  • Create energetic boundaries

  • Hold compassionate space for spirit communication

  • Bring a sense of calm to emotionally charged environments

In some cases, Reiki can help shift stagnant or heavy energy within a space, much like opening windows in a room that has felt closed off for years. While Reiki itself may not move along your hitchhiking ghosts, it will certainly aid in the transmutation of energy and blessing of the space itself.

Compassion Changes Everything

One of the most important lessons Reiki has taught me is compassion.

Whether I am working with a client, connecting with spirit, or investigating unusual experiences, compassion remains at the center of the work.

Not every unexplained experience is negative.
Not every spirit communication is frightening.
Not every energetic disturbance requires removal or intervention.

Sometimes people simply need understanding, validation, and support.

Reiki reminds me to approach every situation with curiosity rather than fear and healing rather than judgment.

A Bridge Between Healing and Intuition

For me, Reiki is not separate from psychic work—it is the foundation that supports it.

It helps me remain grounded while exploring the unseen. It strengthens my ability to listen, discern, and trust what I receive. Most importantly, it allows me to approach intuitive and paranormal work from a place of healing rather than sensationalism.

Whether I am sitting with a client during a tarot reading, connecting with loved ones in spirit, or investigating a location with reported activity, Reiki helps me remember that energy is not something to fear. It is something to understand.
